Soprano Cornet - Emily Williams
Emily started playing cornet at primary school under the guidance of Lynda Nicholson. She joined St. Helens Youth Brass Band at the age of 10 and very quickly progressed from the Training Band to the “A Band”.
With Youth Band she has taken part in many competitions including the National Youth Brass Band Competition of Great Britain, held at the Royal Northern College of Music and Music for Youth in Birmingham as well as the annual Butlins contest where the Youth Band placed 3rd and 2nd in 2012 and 2013. She has also been lucky enough to tour with the band and visit London in 2009, Columbus, Ohio in 2010, Scotland in 2011 and Salzburg in Austria in 2012.
In 2011, she was encouraged to take up Soprano cornet and joined Skelmersdale Prize Band in June 2012, which has helped her to progress her playing by being involved in many more concerts and contests.
She is currently working towards her grade 8 on Soprano Cornet, as well as studying Maths/Stats, Music, ICT, and Biology at Rainford College in St Helens for her A Levels. She has achieved Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and is currently taking part in Gold Duke of Edinburgh as part of enrichment with College.
Emily loves banding and is thinking of continuing with music at University. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her two dogs (Max and Dillon) and going out with her friends and making lots of noise.
