Percussion - Lesley Hardman

Lesley started learning piano at the age of 7 and oboe at the age of 12.  After thoroughly enjoying playing in the woodwind sections of various ensembles at Bolton Music Centre she decided to study for a B.Mus(Hons) degree at Hull University.  Whilst there she majored on piano performance but also played principal oboe in the orchestra and was awarded a prize for best all-round instrumental achievement.  (Learning to scrape a bass viol might have played a part in this award as well!)

Lesley went on to study for a PGCE and became a primary school teacher with responsibility for music.  After a break to have children she has since been working for Bolton Music Service as a piano/keyboard tutor and piano accompanist.

As her husband (Dave - Eb bass) was spending increasingly more time at brass band rehearsals and concerts, and she had just stopped playing keyboard in a contemporary worship band, Lesley came to the inevitable conclusion of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!” and joined Flixton Band on percussion in January 2013.  She particularly enjoys playing tuned percussion (for obvious reasons), but is learning the rest of the ropes from her son Ben, who plays kit.

Lesley's most memorable

"Flixton Band coming 3rd at Preston – my 1st ever performance on percussion!"
