Musical Director - Stephen Curtis

Born in Telford, Stephen began playing the cornet during his time at the Abraham Darby School. He then moved on to study music at sixth form before gaining a place at the University of Salford on the Band Musicianship course in 1996. On completion of this, Stephen studied for a PGCE in Music in 2000.

In 2003, Stephen was appointed Head of Music at the Walsall Academy School in Bloxwich, a school with Performing Arts Status. He developed Music Technology within the department to support independent learning and had over 180 students studying music at KS4 level.

Stephen is a freelance Musical Director, Band Trainer and Teacher. Stephen offers brass teaching and private tuition to support KS3, GCSE and A level music.

Stephen's conducting career has seen him conduct various bands in the Midlands, and further afield, including Wrexham Brass, Stourport-on-Severn and the Jackfield Brass Band.

Before moving back to Salford, Stephen was Musical Director of the Wellington (Telford) Brass Band in Shropshire. Over five years he led the band from the 4th section to the top of the 2nd Section in the Midlands. During this time they gained a place at the National Finals on five consecutive occasions, including becoming the 3rd section National Champion Band in 2008.
