First Horn - Tom Folland

Tom started playing the trumpet aged 8, however was quickly moved onto horn after joining Cheltenham Silver Band. For the next 10 years, Tom rose to the position of solo horn, playing in a series of entertainment and regional competitions. Tom also participated in several solo competitions in the local area. Tom also joined the recently re-formed Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band, playing 1st and solo horn at a series of workshops and the national youth brass band finals.

In 2008 Tom left Cheltenham and went to Manchester University to study Physics, where he stopped playing for a short while due to dental work and time commitments with his degree. In 2010 Tom joined the Manchester University Wind Orchestra, playing in regular concerts. Tom also managed the band for one year, from 2011-12. After finishing his degree and proceeding on to a PhD in Nano science Tom decided to return to brass banding and joined Flixton.

Tom is also currently a scout leader in Chorlton-cum-Hardy
