Solo Cornet- Tom Hylgaard

Thomas was born and raised in Hadsten near Aarhus in Denmark. In 1985 he started playing the cornet in Silkeborg FDF (Boys Brigade). Since then his interest for music led him to The Royal Northern College of Music, where he in June 2002 finished his Bachelor degree.

During Thomas' four years at The RNCM he received tuition by the following teachers: Murray Greig (principal trumpet Opera North), John MacMurray (principal trumpet The Hallá Orchestra), Patrick Addinal (principal trumpet BBC Philharmonic Orchestra), Uwe Komischke (professor at the Franz Liszt conservatory in Weimar, Germany) and Hannes Laubin (principal trumpet Bayrische Rundfunk Symfonieorchester and professor at The "Hochschule für Musik und Teater, München). Thomas has also performed with many different ensembles at the college and outside: from Brass ensemble concert with former Philip Jones Brass Ensemble members to Co-principal in the International Bachakademie under Helmuth Rilling and The International Bachakademie Brass Ensemble with whom he has toured Germany.

In September 2002 Thomas started as Brass Teacher at The Salford Music And Performing Arts Service, and in May 2003 he was appointed Musical Director of The Hebden Bridge Junior Band. Thomas is also a member of The Euro Brass Quintet.

Tom Hylgaard

1998- Jan 2015

Tom's most memorable
banding moment:

"My Greatest banding moment has to be an entertainment contest (Silke Blæs) with Silkeborg Blæserne (Denmark) in 1996, performing Sugar Blues walking amongst the audience while my pants were falling down. Since then I have put on some weight so it won't happen again!".
