On a gloriously sunny morning the band gathered at Stretford Cenotaph for the annual service of remembrance.
We headed back to the John Alker Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Flixton for a very welcome hotpot. The hall was bedecked with flags and packed with people. We were delighted to perform a free concert of music chosen for the occasion.

I just wondered, is there is not still a War Memorial on the roundabout at Davyhulme? I can vividly remember in the late 1960’s playing there at the Rememberance Day Parade, in the pouring rain. By the time I got back home I was soaked right through to my skin.
My school friend Kathryn Jones persuaded me to go to a rehearsal with her one day and I kept going back. If I remember corectly the Solo Cornet player was the son of the MD, another player used to give me a lift home on the back of his scooter. ‘Hoppy Hopkinson’.
When I moved away from Flixton I joined the Vickers Band in Barrow-in-Furness, ending my playing, due to ill health, with Flookburgh Band under the baton of John Iveson, the world renowned Trombone player.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you well in your future endeavours.
