Flixton Band maintains a proud tradition of music making, which dates back over 140 years. The Band is currently graded first section by the National Brass Band Association of Great Britain, the highest of any Trafford Band. Flixton Band is currently self-funding and does not benefit from sponsorship. Originally formed in 1877, the Flixton Volunteer Band was the result of the formation of the Flixton 1st Volunteer Battalion, Manchester Regiment. (This was the Territorial Army of the period.) The services of the band were in much demand and it gradually became known locally as the Flixton Volunteers Band. … Learn More »
The band re-formed in 1967, when it became known as the Flixton Silver Band, and was granted permission to use the Urmston coat of arms on band uniforms and stationery. To this day we still use the coat of arms in association with our band.

Dear Flixton Band Committee.
Although I am not in a position to apply for your permanent MD position I noticed from 4bars rest you do not have an MD listed for the Wychavon Contest. I appreciate you will hoping to appoint someone over the next few weeks but if you are interested I will be in the UK 28.10-5.11 and would be happy to lead your competition assault.
Former Head of Brass at the RNCM, I now teach in Germany but still hold the Brass Band dear to my heart acting as an ambassador for the development of the British Brass Band in Europe.
If you are interested in a ‘one off, I do have a unique 20 minute entertainment programme entitled American Salute which several bands here and in the UK have enjoyed. No stranger to banding in the North West I took Rainford to Blackpool last year and are always up for maintaining my links with brass bands in the UK.
