May 2016 – present
Andy has played musical instruments for as long as he can remember. He also had a go at the violin for a while, from the age of 6. After a few years, when family members realised there would never be any way to distinguish between the sound of the violin and the mewling of the neighbours’ cat, he decided enough was enough.
By that point, Andy had taken up the euphonium, and he maintains to this day that he was tricked into it by a devious friend. The story goes that, during his first year at Glossop school, he and a mate were walking along the corridor when they heard the school brass band rehearsing. His friend was so enamoured with the sonorous sounds emanating from the music room that he begged Andy to accompany him to some cornet lessons. The friend managed two weeks before giving up, whilst Andy is still trying!
As well as six years with Glossop School Band, Andy’s playing career has taken him to one or two senior bands, including Hollingworth, Tintwistle, Portishead, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Timperley, Blackburn & Darwen and Waitakere. However, he only reached his musical zenith when he joined Flixton!
