Chris started Eb bass when he was 15, having been given one to try because the school band needed someone daft enough to pick up such an inconvenient instrument.
He grew up on the Isle of Man playing with Ramsey Town Band. He moved to England when he went to university, where he played with, and later conducted, Lancaster University brass band. Whilst there he founded UniBrass, the University Brass Band Championship of Great Britain.
After a 3 year spell playing with Putney and Wimbledon whilst living in Surrey, he moved to Manchester in 2019 and joined the band in 2023.
