July 2007 – Present
Dave started playing trumpet at age 11 and has played in a number of amateur and semi-professional ensembles over the last 30 years. He was a member of the International Youth Philharmonic for their 1984 inaugural European Tour and has the strange accolade of playing in the winning and third placed bands at the British Association of Symphonic Wind Ensembles national contest held at Wembley Arena.
Dave studied Civil Engineering at Birmingham University and was principal trumpet in the orchestra and lead trumpet in the Big Band, fitting in studying in his spare time!!!!
Dave only started playing in brass bands when he joined Besses o’ the Barn on third man down when they were promoted back up to the championship section. Unfortunately due to work commitments playing took a back seat for ten years, with Dave coming out of retirement to join Flixton in 2007. He played solo cornet before switching to bass in the Spring of 2010. Since then Dave has proved his flexibility as Flixton’s answer to “Where’s Wally?”, switching between cornet and bass with occasional appearances on various instruments in between!
Dave’s most memorable banding moment:
Coming 3rd at the area contest in our first outing in the 2nd section
