As a high school student, Josh was involved with youth projects ranging from the KC Youth Symphony, KC Area Youth Jazz, to the Fountain City Youth Brass Academy, where he picked up the cornet and later the soprano cornet.
Josh decided to pursue his undergraduate studies in trumpet performance at the University of Missouri, Kansas City under professor Keith Benjamin, where he took part in every large instrumental ensemble, including the Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Jazz Orchestra with principal roles. He also performed in chamber groups and outside projects, including professional engagements with KC based big bands, cover bands, pit orchestras and more. Josh also continued to play soprano cornet with the FCYBA band, as well as back row cornet with the Championship Division Fountain City Brass Band.
