Trafford still in lockdown

September 17, 2020 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

We continue to be unable to meet to rehearse as Trafford's local lockdown continues. The Band's Management Team continues to work hard behind the scenes ensuring that we comply with the ever-changing guidance from government sources and Brass Bands England. We were all set to go, at least for small group playing, before coronavirus rates in Greater … [Read more...]

Lock-down continues

July 22, 2020 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

Latest Government advice has relaxed some rules for professional musicians but has tightened those for brass players, woodwind and singers. Rehearsals continue to be suspended until further notice and our public engagements are cancelled for the remainder of summer at least. Please keep an eye on our engagements page, which we will continue to update if … [Read more...]

Lock-down lifting?

June 25, 2020 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

It may be for shops and even pubs and restaurants, but we haven't quite got there yet for band rehearsals. Blowing lots of air around a confined rehearsal room is still considered unwise. However, outdoors with 3m between seats, not facing each other and groups of no more than six players, it is now possible to play together. Resourceful members have … [Read more...]

VE Day

May 10, 2020 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

Obviously we didn't play a concert in Urmston to mark the event as had been planned. Nevertheless our members from across Trafford and further afield were able to contribute musically to the commemorations. We played The Last Post, respected the two minute silence and complete the Reveille on streets, in parks and out of open windows. Our efforts … [Read more...]

Not one to be put off by lock-down, our Solo Horn player Jess has been accepted to start an MA course in September with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Hopefully we'll be back in rehearsals in time to say goodbye. … [Read more...]

Welcome to Flixton Band

Flixton Band maintains a proud tradition of music making, which dates back over 140 years. The Band is currently graded first section by the National Brass Band Association of Great Britain, the highest of any Trafford Band. Flixton Band is currently self-funding and does not benefit from sponsorship. Originally formed in 1877, the Flixton Volunteer Band was the result of the formation of the Flixton 1st Volunteer Battalion, Manchester Regiment. (This was the Territorial Army of the period.) The services of the band were in much demand and it gradually became known locally as the Flixton Volunteers Band. … Learn More »

Flixton Band

The band re-formed in 1967, when it became known as the Flixton Silver Band, and was granted permission to use the Urmston coat of arms on band uniforms and stationery. To this day we still use the coat of arms in association with our band.

Rehearsals

Flixton Band rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays at the Coach House on Flixton Road. Both rehearsals are 8pm to 10pm.

Thanks to a partnership formed in May 2013 our training band, the Flixton Community Band, rehearses at Flixton Junior School on Delamere Road from 10am to noon each Saturday.

Let’s hope it contributes towards bringing us even more success going forward!
